On this lovely snowy morning, I’m opening a website dedicated to fun for me and readers alike. I want to share some thoughts about life, reading, music, the beauties of the world, gratitude, and food! But first, a little about myself and how I got to this place.
I grew up on the prairies in a small town that had two excellent colleges, soon to become universities. My life was one of riding my mare Avalon and my young bull calf Thistle (not my best idea), taking long walks with my rescue dog Butch, and practicing concert harp and piano. In the summer, gypsies camped in our backyard (really).
My friends and I had the invaluable benefit of a fifth grade teacher who loved literature (and us) and introduced us to a new tableful of books every week.
Our imaginations were fueled by this, and our play was about Romanian sheepherders, silver tarns in the Highlands of Scotland, earlier prairie dwellers, cliff dwellers, Mayan civilizations, gypsies of course, and on to infinity.
This wonderful teacher also encouraged us to write, and illustrate, our own stories. Decades later, I was stunned to read a review from Kirkus and find that not only was my book, Merchant of Dreams, starred, but was selected as one of the 100 Best Indie Books of 2018. This from one of the toughest reviewers in the business. Check out my review above.
I live with my husband and three quirky cats in a 1793 farmhouse in upstate New York, where every morning I feel awe and gratitude for the beauty around me: the rosy dawn tinting the headwaters of the Susquehanna at the bottom of the hill, early birdsong, and the occasional deer, wild turkeys, or foxes wandering our territory.
After a long and rewarding career as a concert harpist, I’m enjoying the piano (Brahms and Rachmaninoff at present) and the time to write and spend time with our large family. More on this later.
